The bank follows a structured valuation process to assess the purity and net weight of gold jewellery/ornaments pledged by the customer for determining the eligible loan amount. The process consists of the following steps:
1. Purity Evaluation
The purity of the gold ornament is assessed using approved assaying methods, and the purity ( caratage ) is recorded for valuation.
2. Net Weight Calculation
The jewellery or ornament is weighed in the presence of the customer. The weight of all non gold components is deducted from the gross weight. The resulting net weight, representing only the gold content, is used for valuation.
3. Gold Price for Valuation
Gold pledged as collateral is valued based on the reference gold price published by the Indian Bullion & Jewellers Association (IBJA) as on the valuation date.
